Seashell and the Five Elements (Metal) - Oil Painting on Canvas - 2023 - 60 x 48 inches (x5) - This series expresses the state of helplessness experienced by marine creatures taken out of their natural habitat. In four of the paintings, shells are placed in an environment that they cannot survive in, represented by elements such as metal, wood, fire and dirt.

Seashells and the Five Elements (Wood) - Oil Painting on Canvas - 2023 - 60 x 48 inches (x5) - I made the shells look very separated from the background to create a sense of displacement. The Bird's-Eye perspective also adds a sense of conquest, showing humans’ power over these creatures.

Seashells and the Five Elements (Water) - Oil Painting on Canvas - 2023 - 60 x 48 inches (x5) The shell in the water is full of life and brightness. By using large canvases to depict small creatures, I want to bring them into light and put the viewers in their shoes; if the seashells were there, how would they feel? Do they belong there?

Seashells and the Five Elements (Fire) - Oil Painting on Canvas - 2023 - 60 x 48 inches (x5)

Seashells and the Five Elements (Dirt) - Oil Painting on Canvas - 2023 - 60 x 48 inches (x5)

Specimens (Original) - Oil Pastel on Pastel Paper - 2022 - This is the piece that inspired the series. Finding beauty in the smallest of things. Often when we are at the beach, we only notice the larger things such as the ocean or a sand castles. But rarely do we notice the little specks of nature like a seashell. Cause really a bigger picture is produced from all these beautiful small elements.
