Unknowns - Digital Photograph - 6542 × 4270 px - As a student photographer, I like the way ordinary places can create new meanings and narratives. In this image, taken in a subway passage, the photo creates a visual illusion. The staircase looks like it could be heading up or down. Both ways lead to a mystery. The uncertainty that the image creates is like the journey of life. No matter what path you take, you will never know where it leads to.

Line Shadows - Digital Photograph - 7008 × 4672 px - Finding patterns of geometric figures in everyday objects is one of my interests. The subject of the photo comes from the roof of a common residential house. Even though iron sheets are cheap, it creates beautiful patterns with the touch of sunlight. The shadows of the lines remind me of the rhythms of music and create a sense of movement. I captured three combinations of diagonal lines along with the shadow area on the far right. The changes in the angles of these diagonal lines are subtle, but they make the simple iron roof more rich and three-dimensional. I am impressed by how light and shadow can transform a simple space and give it a more dynamic look and I will continue to explore that in my practice.

Water and Light - Digital Photograph - 7008 × 4672 px - This photo is a continuation of my exploration of light and shadow. When making this photo, I experimented with slow shutter speed so that the movement of light is captured over time, which creates a dreamy effect and softens the boundary between light and dark. Changing the shutter speed is a fascinating way of expression and captures what our eyes cannot see. The pure black and white gives us space to imagine the colors that aren’t there. I often see gold shimmers in the brightest part of this photo.

Listening to the Snow - Digital Photograph - 7008 × 4672 px - We rarely have the opportunity to listen to the sound of snow quietly. Nature seems to be both familiar and unfamiliar. Every snowflake is different and nature is infinitely rich. When my family visited the small village of Shirakawa-Go in Japan, famous for its heavy snowfall in winter and its "goshu-zukuri roof" built to reduce snow gathering, we experienced a beautiful snowfall. We watched and quietly listened to the snow. The falling snowflakes made our hearts quiet, comfortable and warm. I took pictures of the moment using a mixture of slow and fast shutter speeds to capture the fluttering snowflakes, frozen in time and in motion.
